Drinking Age Debate

In 1984, Congress passed the National Minimum Drinking Age Act, which imposed a penalty on any state setting its drinking age lower than 21. The Amethyst Initiative seeks to rethink the drinking age. It proposes lowering the legal drinking age and to date, more than 100 college presidents have signed on to the Initiative.

Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) encourages community anti-drug coalitions throughout the country to become engaged in this debate and reach out to their local college presidents and media to educate them about the consequences associated with underage drinking and lowering the minimum drinking age.

CADCA’s Support 21 Toolkit includes letter writing tools, media outreach tools, fact sheets & stats, national and local news clips, and other useful resources assist local community anti-drug coalitions these efforts.
